Barden Family Orchard was the first recipient in Rhode Island. This reward is given by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service for ongoing conservation efforts in raising our crops that are over and above what the government standards require. Some of the enhancements include: soil condition index being increased, reducing offsite impacts of pesticides, integrated pest management; increased water conservation by using a drip irrigation system, nutrient testing to accurately determine fertilizer needs, and habitat management bluebird and bat boxes.
